The FIA gave their verdict on the financial budget cap assessment and found Red Bull Racing guilty of overspending and breaching the budget cap. Mercedes’ Toto Wolff already took shots at the Red Bull boss in the Singapore GP before FIA released the verdict. Furthermore, Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto also raised concerns about the same.

The FIA found Red Bull guilty of overspending the budget cap, which paves the way for Ferrari and Mercedes to put pressure on the FIA. Mattia Binotto already raised concerns when the FIA decided to postpone the results. Binotto was growing concerned about why it was taking so long for the governing body to get the results out.

Talking to the media after the Japanese GP, Binotto said, “Interesting to see that it’s taking so long to issue it, because it was due days ago.”
Furthermore, he added, “Why is it simply waiting so long? Certainly because there are discussions behind which are simply giving, let me say truth to the fact that there are rumors and speculations about maybe teams having being in breach.”

The Ferrari boss also added that the cost cap needs to be treated with complete transparency and clarity. He also believes the FIA to be stern with their penalties if there was a guilty party. The FIA has not yet announced the course of action on what the penalties will be.

Mattia Binotto is disappointed with the sport’s governing body after how the events panned out in the Japanese GP. However, he suppressed his disappointment regarding the safety car incidents, the crane, and the further drama that transpired.

Binotto said, “We will talk about it in the appropriate fora. I don’t want to stand here and comment too much.”
He also added, “I’ve said before: it’s unacceptable and it’s unacceptable to see how the decision was taken today in front of not even a lead gained, without having had a chance to listen to the drivers.”
